USCG Captain's License

$995 Earn your Captain's License at the BSC

greg metcalfThis course will prepare you for the Operator of Uninspected Passenger Vessel (OUPV) license which allows you to take up to 6 passengers for hire. The course is Coast Guard approved and offered by the Atlantic Captain's Academy.

Course includes sitting for the OUPV exam so you don't need to take the test at the Coast Guard Regional Exam Center. 

Requirements for Applicants

Applicants should be 18+ years old, a US citizen or greencard holder, able to pass a physical, and have no recent criminal felonies. Sea service requirements are 360 days (back 16th birthday), and 90 of which need to be in the last three years.

Additional Estimated Costs

This is a preparatory and testing course, and does not include the costs for Coast Guard application and other fees. Additional costs are estimated to be $165 for the Coast Guard Application, $75 for CPR/First Aid, $65 for a drug test, and $129 for a TWIC card. You will also need to arrange for a physical. 


Winter Course. Class runs from January 13 to March 18, 2020. Meets for nine consecutive Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:00pm to 9:00pm for instruction, plus testing days of Monday, March 16 and Wednesday, March 18 from 6:00-9:00pm.
